This Spicy Tuna Dip takes canned tuna to new heights, and you’ll be instantly hooked! Burst of flavours with jalapeños, lime, and avocado.
Canned tuna baby!
It’s always an accomplishment when we can turn boring pantry staples into something utterly delicious. Seriously, who knew that canned tuna could be this tasty and exciting?
If you’re a fan of guacamole or salsa and love tuna then this one is for you. There’s plenty of flavours working hard together in this dip to reel you in and get you totally hooked!
You’ll get tartness from limes, spiciness from the cayenne pepper and pickled jalapeños. The tuna and avocado provide creaminess whilst the tomatoes and coriander deliver freshness. This Spicy Tuna Salsa dip is big on flavours and textures!
The only problem I have when making this Spicy Tuna Dip is I can’t stop eating it, this isn’t too bad if I choose to eat it with a healthy snack rather than indulging in corn chips. I can’t help it, I love sitting in front of the TV with this dip and corn chips, it’s the perfect snack that doesn’t leave me feeling too guilty by the end of it.
If I wanted this snack to be completely guilt-free I would eat the dip with veggies sticks such as carrots, celery or cucumber. Iceberg lettuce or cabbage cups also goes really well and because the dip tastes so good I don’t even notice that I’m eating healthy.
So there you have it, a tasty healthy dip that can be munched on anytime, in front of the TV, at a gathering or even at a picnic! how cool is that?
Chunky or mashed dip? you decide!
Do you remove your avocado seed by throwing a sharp knife into it and use it to swiftly pull the seed out, like a skilled ninja? I place my avocado with the seed sticking out on to chopping board then I’ll force a knife into the seed. There’s no way I can hold the avocado in my hand because I am terrified that I’ll miss the seed and chop my hand off! I can be uncoordinated at the best of times!
Now that we’ve got the avocado sorted, let’s talk about textures. Do you prefer your dips chunky or mashed up? Think about when you have your guacamole, do you like it smooth or do you like seeing nice chunks of avocado? Well, I’ve made it both ways and enjoyed both versions so I don’t have a clear winner.
To make a mushy and creamy dip use a very ripe avocado and tomato. With ripe tomatoes, the seeds will be watery and need to be scooped out before chopping and placing them in the dip. Also, take the time to finely chop the onions, jalapeño, coriander, tomato and avocado.
To make a chunky dip use a ripe avocado and a firm tomato. Chop the onions, jalapeño, coriander, tomato and avocado into rough little chunks. When combining the ingredients together, make sure to mix them in gently.
The case of the missing TV remote
A few months ago I prepared this Spicy Tuna Dip as a snack. My husband, Tomasi, and I were planning to watch a movie with a few glasses of wine after putting our toddler, Kai, to bed. As soon as he fell asleep we ran into our lounge room to put our feet up. I was busy stuffing my face with chips, dip and wine when I noticed Tomasi looking flustered.
‘I can’t find the remote!’ he barked angrily.
‘Did you check under the couches and the coffee table?’ I suggested.
‘Kai must’ve misplaced it somewhere!’ Tomasi exclaimed whilst looking behind our fridge.
‘I’ve never seen Kai misplace anything, he always puts everything back where it belongs!’ I snapped.
So as it happened, no remote meant no movie for us as we didn’t know at this time we could manually turn our TV on.
The next morning as I was sipping on my coffee whilst feeding Kai his cereal when Tomasi abruptly screamed out my name and said ‘There’s the BLOODY REMOTE!’
Rolling my eyes, I walked over to him. There it was, our large black remote was lying right next to our kitties poop in their litter box. ‘So, did your sister do this or was it the cats?’ he asked sarcastically.
A few weeks later Kai showed his stupid parents how to manually turn on the TV, he randomly pressed a small red dot on the bottom of our flatscreen and the TV magically came on.

Ingredients for Spicy Tuna Dip
Canned tuna – Use good quality tuna chunks either in spring water or brine. Make sure to drain as much water as you can from the tuna so it won’t dilute the taste of the dressing.
Tomatoes – To prevent the dip from going ‘watery’ scoop out the seeds of the tomatoes before chopping and adding it to the dip.
Avocado – For a creamier dip use a very ripe avocado.
Pickled jalapeño gives this dip heat, texture and zest. If preferred, fresh jalapeño can be used instead.
