Meet my adorable but naughty cat Teddie, he is a cheeky bugger! A hungry cat on an endless mission to find food and steal it!
Meet our babyface cat Teddie, we nicknamed him our ‘tiny food assassin’ as we have never met a cat with such a massive appetite, seriously this little dude can eat a tonne of food and never be satisfied. Teddie will go to incredible lengths to get a free meal and he ain’t shy about it either!
A few weeks ago I was setting up my ‘ingredients needed’ photo for my coffee jelly with cream recipe, I ducked into the kitchen for just a few seconds to grab the rest of the ingredients and came back to see Teddie hovering over the bowls and sniffing around for food, you can see him in action for yourself in the video clip below:
We adopted Teddie from a shelter when he was around 2 months old. Unlike Caviar who was raised in a posh home near the beachside by his real parents and a Siberian cat breeder, baby Teddie was separated from his mum and siblings very early on so he never had a chance to learn ‘cat etiquette’.
This was apparent when we witnessed Teddie pooping whilst standing up and grooming himself awkwardly after. He also bit and scratched us leaving scars all over our bodies, but Teddie’s behaviour was at his worse when there was food nearby, he would threaten all of us with his annoying but cute little hisses and growls.
Fortunately, Teddie was willing to let us teach him good cat behaviour and it also helped that his clean freak brother Caviar was always around flaunting his perfectly groomed fur and polished paws in Teddie’s face. Our Teddie has come a long way, he is now a very chilled and a happy go lucky cat.
One thing we can never take away from Teddie was his insatiable appetite and that has not changed, he is no longer a kitten but a fully grown 3 year old cat.
Teddie has a constant desire to eat and steal everyone’s food without shame, any one of us could be eating and suddenly we would get interrupted abruptly by an aggressive head-butt or a hairy paw in our food as he is attempting to swipe our food towards him.
What’s impressive about our local food assassin is that he has possesses amazingly accurate body clock, he knows exactly to the second when it’s time to have his breakfast and dinner. Tomasi previously fed our cats at 5 am each morning before he went to work, but due to COVID-19, he started waking up later as he was working from home. Little mad Teddie wouldn’t have a bar of this, at 5 am he would claw and scratched our door down like a maniac until someone eased his hunger pangs.
And when we do get up to feed him he is extremely impatient and impolite about it, he meows continuously rushing us along and would jump on the kitchen bench whilst we were preparing his food. Once we finished putting his food in his bowl he would lead us to his feeding spot but will continue crying in urgency until we put the bowl down and that’s when he would gobble the food up within seconds.
Well, the good thing is that even though he is still a greedy guts, he has stopped with the hissing and growling whenever food is around. Our Teddie AKA “tiny food assassin” is a bit politer these days, he now steals our food in silence.
